Port Resolution and Hot Springs

After a breakfast of peanut butter and jelly on bread we said goodbye to our hosts Willy and Mary. Back in the truck with Mancy and Sarah our guides, we set off to explore the island. Our first stop is Port Resolution yacht club set on a cliff top overlooking the beautiful Port Resolution Bay.

Port Resolution was first discovered by Captain Cook

Next stop was Yaku-veran village, where we visited the local school. We are invited into one of the classrooms, where an English lesson was taking place.

Peter tests the children on there English

When we stop off at Port Resolution beach to visit the Hot Springs, Jocelyn one of the villagers we had just picked up offered to show us around. It turns out that she is the wife of the village chief. Jocelyn was very knowledgeable and spent over an hour showing us around.

The hot spring produces boiling water.........................2 boys trying to light a in the very hot breather hole

With a very full truck we made our way back to Lenakel on the west coast along the same pot holed roads. With a few hours to spare before our flight back we just had time to visit a giant banyan tree the size of a football pitch. John the owner of the tree showed us around charging us $1000 (£ 7) per person, what a rip-off, unfortunately we hadn’t checked the price before looking around. However it was very impressive.

As we drove along the road Mancy stopped to pick up villagers needing a lift and the roadside market he stopped at to collect carrots for Peter
