Monday 4th January

With the wind on our nose we motored with Blue Magic for 5 hours and anchored in Bourg de Saintes, Tere d’en Haut. The Saintes are a small group of islands. They have been French since shortly after they were colonized and there is a strong link to the north of France, especially Brittany.

Bourg de Saintes is a picturesque seaside town. It’s very clean with houses that look like gingerbread houses and it’s very French!

Our boat boy for the day (Mark, Blue Magic) took us ashore where we strolled through the town soaking up the charm of the place. We then walked up the hill with Mark and Chrissy and David and Susan to Fort Napoleon which stands on a hill to the North of the harbour. The view of the harbour and the town below was spectacular. Later in the afternoon we went snorkeling in the bay behind Pain de sucre where the water was very clear and full of colourful reef fish and boulders encrusted with coral and sponges. In the evening we went ashore for some French cuisine, as you do.

Tomorrow we move on to Dominica.
