Mormake Tupu
Mor-make-tupu meaning Mola-making-island or
shirt-makers-island is also called Isla Maquina.
We anchored about a mile south of Mormake
behind a protective reef surrounded by mangrove isles. We were soon visited by
Adelfonso Restrepo who agreed to show us around his village, so we dinghyed over
to Mormake (getting very wet on the way) to find Adelfonso waiting on the jetty.
This island was more set up for transit and we were charged US$ 10 to
visit.
300 people live on this tiny island with
alleyways being so small you have to walk sideways! Whist we were there a bell
rang and the elder ladies of the village gathered in a hut where they are taught
spanish. Again paul was popular as a bag of balloons was produced. Word got
around and children appeared from everywhere. We ended up blowing up 50
balloons! Hair slides were also a hit withb a group of girls modelling them for
us.
We anchored over night in the very peaceful
bay surrounded by mangroves with Blue Magic and Roundabout.
