Tobago Cays

The Tobago Cays are 5 tiny uninhabited islands surrounded by reef and they say it's where the gods go to play! We gingerly crept between Petit Rameau and Horseshoe Reef and picked up a mooring buoy between Baradel and Petit Bateau, the only thing between us and Africa was Horseshoe Reef! The Tobago Cays is a national park and conservation area and rangers collect $10 EC per day per person.

The water was translucent and Turquoise in colour and it didn't take long for us to get our snorkels and masks on. We went across to a small beach and swam amongst the turtles, they graze along the bottom on the sea grass then every few minutes swim to the surface for air. The following morning we went to the outer reef, a lot of the reef has been damaged by hurricanes but the water was very clear and we saw lots of different coloured fish including a white tipped reef shark 3ft long. I had been snorkelling by Pete when we suddenly spotted it, we tried to swim after the shark but he was too quick for us. Later in the day we dinghy-ed over to Jamesby island where a group of us had a picnic, the evening was rounded off with drinks and nibbles on Blue Magic.
