We have been saying since Amy first came out that she should have a go at diving to see if she likes it and if she does then she could do a course. At first she was interested in it and then became worried that she'd panic and wouldn't like it as sometimes she can become chlostraphobic so we all forgot about it. Then when we reached this bay with its crystal clear waters and shallow depth Amy suggested she have a go, we were delighted!

When you dive most people have two octupuses that connect to the oxygen tank which have a mouth piece at the end for you to breath through. The reason for two is a safety measure so that if anything were to go wrong with your first stage you have a second as a back up. So Paul put all of his diving kit on and used his first stage oxygen and Amy used his second. They dived first at Blue Magic as they were anchored in 3.5 metres of water and they used their chain to hold on to to reach the bottom. Once down and everything was fine they went for a little swim around the boat, all the time sticking close together as Amy was using the oxygen attached to Paul.

Everything went very well and Amy enjoyed it so she suggested diving under Jackamy as we were anchored in 7-8 metres of water. Again this went well and Amy enjoyed it. She then suggested wearing my kit and having her own tank so that she was in control of getting herself underwater etc. Paul didn't have enough air to go down with her so she was by herself although he was watching from the surface. She went off swimming around the boat, doing forward rolls and sitting on the sea bed. Paul said she looked like a natural, the way she was controlling her position in the water through breathing was impressive. So I think we're now looking for somewhere for her to do a PADI course which is good news. And now that she is staying until Fiji is even better as it is meant to be one of the best places to dive in the world.
