It's been a hot and sunny day today.

We lost sight of land around 6 pm and won't see it again for about 2600 miles, about 20 days. Since the days of Columbus, who completed his passages in around 21 days the advice has always been to sail SW from the Canaries until the trade winds are found in the vicinity of 20 degrees North and only then was the course changed to the West. Hence "Go South until the butter melts and then turn right". A rule of thumb has been to sail for a position approximately 350 nm NW of the Cape Verde Islands in what is called the 20/30 position (20 degrees N, 30 degrees W).

We've been sailing for 20 hours using a variety of sail plans. Goose-winging when the main sail and genoa are set at opposite sides. We've also had the cruising chute out which is very pink and we've been averaging 7-9 knots.

More dolphins joined us today, there must have been 50 or more. There was a cheeky one who kept doing back flips and jumping out of the water, so that kept us entertained for a while as there has been little else going on.

At the moment it's as if we're surfing along the waves. They're big rollers and we just get pushed along by them. It's not a very nice motion with the boat rocking from side to side but I think we're starting to get used to it.

We're taking plenty of pictures so they'll be uploaded when we get to Antigua.
