We've been to Patong before but only in the car and at night, so we only half knew what to expect. We arrived at the entrance to the bay in the rain so I'm sure that didn't help the view of Patong but I'm not sure it would have been any nicer if the sun had been shining. You can't see the sand on the beaches for deck chairs, there are jet-ski's whizzing in and out of the boats, parasailers are racing up and down the stretch of the beach and the island is just a mass of buildings. Oh and there must be around 50 boats in the anchorage, this is obviously the place to be for new year.

Paul wasn't feeling 100% and we wanted to rest before our new years eve celebrations so we stayed in while the kids went ashore to go shopping and get something to eat. They returned hours later with bag fulls of cheap stuff, such as, cushion covers, dresses, vests, bracelets and many more.

No beach left!

Buildings everywhere

Busy shoreline

Even busier anchorage
