The anchor held all night until we picked it up around 6 am to start to make our way along the coast. We had a good trip round, it only took around 5 hours so we were at the marina by 11:00. The views on the way were spectacular, we could see the sheer cliffs in Phang Nga Bay in the distance and it all looked so inviting. It's a shame that we can't spend more time sailing around the islands instead of being cooped up in a marina but unfortunately we have a long list of jobs to be done. The list consists of repairing the freezer, replacing the damaged teak, mending the fibre-glass, varnishing the name plate and cockpit table, sorting out the mainsail and batons as well as other odd jobs.

We were all a little on edge when entering as there have been so many reports of people running aground on a number of sandbanks. Thankfully we had no trouble and made our way into our berth in this huge marina that has enough space for I think around 200 boats.

Phuket Yacht Haven Marina

We've been here almost 2 weeks now as our job list grew quite considerably and we haven't managed to see much other than the marina. However, we did hire a car to drive down to Phuket Town to sort out our Indian visa's and whilst we were down there the kids caught a ferry back to Phi Phi to see two of Amy's friends from university who left Phuket the day we arrived. Paul and myself did plan on doing a bit of sightseeing around the town but soon discovered there wasn't all that much to see, so instead we got cracking with our jobs. The kids arrived back a few days later and then helped us with the jobs.

The marina staff have been fantastic with us, as well as the staff at the only bar and restaurant close by. They have even stayed open until the early hours of the morning on more than one occasion for Amy and her friends. The tourism board laid on a welcome party for the whole rally at the restaurant which was a great evening that ended in Thai 'stick dancing'. Two women sit on the floor about 2 metres away from one another with two bamboo sticks, they then move them simultaneously in and out to the right and left to the music while two people dance in and out of them. Amy had a go and after a minute or two of having her feet trapped between the sticks she got the hang of it, just in time for the music to pick up pace. It was great fun, to watch anyway!
