Saturday 18th September

We left Cairns on Friday morning and sailed 30 miles north to Port Douglas arriving early afternoon at Mirage marina. Port Douglas has a small friendly village atmosphere and is a popular departure point for trips to the Great Barrier Reef.

The following day along with Blue Magic and the Miss Tippy's we took the bus to the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary which is committed to the conservation of native species via it's Wildlife Rescue program. The Sanctuary is split into three area's Wetlands, Rainforest and Grasslands and we made our way through the Wetlands first.

After Charlie and Annie got up-close and personal with the Snakes we moved through to the Rainforest where we saw a Southern Cassowary, they are classified as endangered and are found in the Wet Tropics area of Tropical North Queensland.

We then moved onto the Grassland area where we hand fed Kangaroos and Wallabies.

We looked down onto a lagoon where both Estuarine and Freshwater crocodiles were basking in the sun

Later that evening we came across some more animals.

Paul  just couldn't resist.
