Paul has been sailing for over 20 years and it has always been his dream to sail around the world. I have been sailing for approximately 11 years although I have to admit I did take some persuading to share the dream with him. I suppose the main worry was leaving everyone at home, in particular the children, Amy, 23 and Jack, 21. With both of them having just finished university it now seems like the ideal time to leave, and after attending the seminars at Southampton, they are keen to join us at various points throughout the trip.

We will be joining the Blue Water Round the World Cruising Rally 2009-2011, which provides an opportunity for cruising yachtsmen to realise their dream and to circumnavigate the world in their own yacht over a period of 20 months. There is no racing whatsoever as the Rally sails at leisure through some of the most beautiful cruising areas of the world.

Jackamy, built with this trip in mind was launched in 2004 in Sweden. We then spent the next two years relaxing and sailing around the beautiful country before we began the 6 week journey down south to Madeira via La Coruna and Lisbon, in the summer of 2006. After our brief stay in Madeira we moved to Mahon in Menorca via Gibraltar, Ibiza and Majorca. We arrived at Mahon mid September and have been berthed there ever since.

We're finding that time is running out with many jobs still to do, courses to complete and injections to have. But at the moment the plan is to leave Mahon at the end of September for a leisurely sail to Gibraltar to get ready to leave at the end of October.
