As dawn approached John had just turned on the SSB radio to listen to Chris Parker and the weather when the Stb engine spluttered and cut out. Both engines were shut down and we both thought empty fuel tank, although that was way outside our calculations. The genoa was raised and with the current we were able to maintain our heading at about 4kts (this was going to make it tight to get in to Key West before dark). After putting 4 jerry cans of diesel into the tank, John checked the fuel filters and they were clogged, as were the lines. This was about 33Nm from the Key West SW Channel. Two hours later, after much sweating on John’s part and much promising to be good if only the engines would start on mine, the Stb was running and this was followed by the Port an hour later. We were both very relieved. There was virtually no wind, the sea was almost mirrored and the day was overcast and hazy. 

We entered the SW Channel at midday and headed for Key West dodging a few floats (crab pots) on the way. Entering the main ships channel, Rob on Quetico called us up and said they were in the mooring field on the other side of Fleming Island and as we had a few hours of daylight left (the sun goes down at 8pm here) we decided to follow the narrow but well marked channel around and take up a mooring.

We picked up a mooring ball (a first for us on Five Islands), knowing we were nice and secure and could catch up with some well deserved sleep.
 
Cheers to being in Key West. If you look really hard there is a rainbow cascading into my glass (it was brighter but by the time i got the camera it had diminished). We are really pleased to be here and looking forward to spending a few days here.
