Put the dinghy in the water this morning and went for a bit of an explore. This place is riddled with reefs and sand bars so we just putted around and checked the place out. Had a bit of a fish but have had to resort to eating one of the fish we bought off the locals early this morning. We went out to a little man made island not far from where we are anchored. Someone has obviously gone to some trouble to cart in a lot of dead coral and build up a little island about 3 feet above sea level and build a house on it. It is built out of cement block which is very unusual out here, where everyone lives in thatched huts. It is now abandoned but The Panama Cruising Guide we use as our bible out here says that a Kuna family was living on it when he did his last update a few years ago. I have no idea why they would do that as a really beautiful uninhabited island with a fresh water well is located about 400 meters away. We were in the process of exploring it when we made the decision to get back to the boat as a storm was heading towards us from the mainland. It hit about an hour after we got back and lasted about an hour and a half, no rain, just winds up to 26 knots. We now have another 10 meters of chain out. Just before the storm we bought 5 lobster for $10 so cooked them while we were waiting for the storm to blow itself out. Have decided to spend another day here before we move on to another as yet unknown anchorage. Another cruiser came across to speak to us today as he thought we were the previous owners, and told us that Banedup Island is the party island and has a bar and restaurant and today had quite a few backpackers and tourists there. It is only about 700 meters from us and we can hear the music and see people playing beach volley ball which still seems out of place out here.
