Can't believe the difference in the weather. We had a quiet night at anchor in Guanaja with very little breeze after an afternoon squall and have caught up on our sleep (and added some sandfly bites to the ones we were just getting over from Providencia). We woke to no breeze and sunshine and pulled the anchor at 0830 on our last leg to the Rio Dulce. We headed along the inside channel on the south side of Guanaja island. The water was very clear and we could see the coral and sand in 10m of water. Our course is taking us on the north side of Roatan and Utilla, rather than along the south, as this is where the wind is predicted to be a little stronger, well 10kts. We motored for the morning in very light wind (like none) and kept our fingers crossed that the forecast was correct. We listen to Chris Parker, an ex-cruiser and weather guru based in Florida, download grib files and get updates from Dani and Jens from their weather App (weathertrack.us). The wind, well breeze, arrived around 1430 so we put up our sails in the wing on wing configuration and turned the engines off. Wing on wing means that the main is on one side of the boat and the Genoa is poled out on the other. The pole is called a Whisker Pole. This is just gorgeous sailing. The seas are about 2ft, the sun is shining, the breeze gentle and we are doing 4 to 4.5 kts. This is what i signed up for. Update on fish - None.
