We motored across from Green Island to Nargana on Saturday morning, although our departure was delayed for an hour as the anchor winch played up a bit and needed some percussion maintenance to get it going again. Nargana is a non traditional Kuna village close to the mainland and situated at the mouth of the Rio Diablo. It is actually 2 islands joined by a bridge and it has an airport on an adjoining island with daily flights to Panama City. We were able to top up the pantry with most things we needed including some fresh vegies. We walked around both islands and it is a friendly and busy little place. Most houses are still made from bamboo and thatched roofs but nearly all of them have a satellite dish. We had lunch at a little restaurant right on the waters edge on both Sunday and Monday. The restaurant had a huge aquarium full of turtles, trigger fish, barracuda etc. We took the dinghy for a trip up the Rio Diablo (Devil River) on Monday. The Kuna have gardens along the river banks which seem to mainly consist of coconuts, bananas and mango trees. We are going to head off on Tuesday morning for a place called Snug Harbour which is about 20 nautical miles east of here. We met a French single hander, Gerald, who had known the previous owners and who kept us entertained at dinner on Monday night with some interesting stories of his 12 years at sea.
