South Long Cocoa Cay lies approximately 13Nm east of Placencia. Yet another light wind on the nose day so another 3hr motoring trip. The island has low sparse scrubby trees, coconut palms and sand piles. We anchored in coral rubble to the SW side of the cay and although the anchor set when we backed down on it neither of us felt really comfortable with the holding (setting the anchor alarm at least gave me a good nights sleep). There was a group of tourists paddling kayaks and fishing but they left in a launcha in the late afternoon heading back to Placencia. It was nice to be at anchor again with a gentle 10 knot breeze coming through the hatch. John went to check the anchor and alerted me to these iridescent glows in the water. We think they were made by a school of squid as they moved past the boat. Every time we shone a torch at them the glow would disappear and we could not identify the creatures. Just beautiful and a touch magical. One night was enough here though and we decided to move to North Long Cocoa Cay the next day.
