We arrived at Savu Savu in Fiji at 0930 Friday after motoring all night, and we are now on a mooring in front of the Copra Shed Marina. It is a really nice place, very sheltered and seems to be about 30 or so yachts moored here. We didn't get to do much on Friday as we were confined to the boat until the customs & immigration guy turned up at 2.30pm so we only got to have a quick visit to town late in the afternoon. A couple (Dave - Pom and Silvie - ex Zimbabwe) on a Catana cat called "Puddytat" moored next to us invited us over for drinks and I think we finally left sometime around midnight or so, was a good night. They have been cruising for about 10 years, this is their second year in Fiji. Silvie's parents are also in Fiji on their 35 foot catamaran, they are 77 and took up cruising about 4 years ago. Sue and Kitty spent several hours looking at Silvie's fabric designs, which she primarily designs and sells for quilt makers, really beautiful stuff. Savu Savu is a quiet little place, we had a look around this morning (Saturday) and found an internet cafe and caught up with our emails. Most of the men here seem to wear Rugby guernseys from either Australia, NZ or South Africa. The harbour is situated in a bay in the mouth of a river inlet tucked in-between coconut tree'd hills. There are several thermal streams and steam rises from the hillsides and even from the sand on the waters edge. We visited the local fresh food markets today and then had lunch at a tiny cafe. I had Fish in Miti (coconut, lemon & a dash of chilli) and John had chicken curry which cost us $5 each. Great value. We are heading up to a village near here for lunch on Monday, and will probably head for Suva on Tuesday. This should be about a 24 hour sail (or motor). We will stay around Suva until Nigel has his Australian visa and then we will head for Brisbane.
