0600 on Friday 28th June and we have just dropped anchor next to 'Arwen' in the harbour off Livingston for a bit of sleep before crossing the Rio Dulce bar, doing our clear into Guatemala and motoring up the Rio Dulce river later today.

Following on from the last blog, we raised the sails at 1400 yesterday in light winds. The day continued to be sunny with the wind slowly increasing to about 15kts from behind. There was one area we passed through that was a debris field with floating logs, plants, plastic bottles and thongs of course. It reminded us of Panama and we wondered if Guatemala has the same problem with rubbish being blown or floating on currents into this geographical corner. The wind lasted until 0100 when the first of several minor squalls paid us a visit. There is a major shipping port located in the bay so a number of ships passed us as we made our way through and across the channel to our current anchor spot.

The sunrise was quite spectacular as it highlighted storm clouds in pinks, yellows and oranges. First light revealed a calm bay of murky/muddy water dotted for miles with small fishing vessels and flocks of pelicans skimming the surface. All in all, first impressions are favourable.
