Five Islands
John & Sue
Wed 9 May 2012 18:46
We are currently anchored in a bay of Taboga Island, about 8nm from Panama City on the Pacific side, filling in time waiting for final arrangements to be completed so that we can commence our journey across the Pacific. Taboga is a pretty island with colourful houses and lots of flowers. It also has the 2nd oldest church in the Northern hemisphere. The people are friendly and there are a number of men with guns (military) wondering around and we were told by an American local that there is no crime on the island. We arrived on Sunday of a long weekend and as a consequence shared the bay with 2 other yachts and about 30 power boats. All the power boats left in the late afternoon giving us a bit of peace and quiet prior to the next days influx. During the week we have had one other yacht here, so its like having our own private anchorage. Two prawn trawlers dropped anchor late yesterday afternoon but not too much noise (some yelling and generator). We fill our days with the regular chores (washing, cooking, water maker, sleeping, reading) and then play Sequence of an evening. Miss Kitty and myself are beating Nigel and John hands down. John continues to have the upper hand in our ongoing Backgammon competition (we went back to Gran Morrison's - Department store at Eldorado, and bought another set to take on our journey).

We successfully caught the Rat after several days of trying. His final downfall was Miss Kitty's bread, which we used as the lure and put more sticky pads all the way around. This time there was no escape and we found one very stuck rat in the morning.
