Less than 18 hrs from Savusavu, our entry port in Fiji. Yesterday afternoon there were some amazing cloud formations that the sun was bouncing off, making for a photo opportunity or 3, but the clouds indicated wind. It hit us just after dark and was some of the strongest wind we have to date (25-35kts) making for a lumpy, bumpy night. Has settled back down now but the day is overcast with little drizzling rain every so often. We are sailing down the Nanuku Passage between the Islands and reefs of Fiji. There has been very little in the way of shipping so far although there is an AIS signal from a ship approaching the channel from our stern. We will see what the night brings. Still no fish and very little bird life. I expected to see a lot more. Since leaving Galapagos we have attempted to pick up 2 x HF (SSB) radio nets, but have had no luck until this morning, thanks to info from 'Virgo's Child'. Said hi to Helen from 'Awaroa', a NZ boat we did a Panama canal crossing with back in April. Really good to hear other boats, where they are and how things are going. It can be a bit isolating out here. We are all looking forward to putting our feet on terra-firma again (although probably a bit staggery to start with).
