                | Last night we did not get a lot of sleep.  We had
anchorwatch turned on on our electronics and we got woken up at midnight and
again 2am beeping that the boat was moving more than a certain distance.
We decided that we had dragged but were still OK as neither of us fancied
getting up in the middle of the night with pouring rain to go and get the ancor
up and try again and set the anchor watch to a slightly greater distance and
hoped for the best.. First thing this morning, in daylight I went in the
sea and snorkelled over the anchor line - it was 10M deep and clear sea so
I could see the chain and anchor well.  It turned out that the anchor was
lying on its back and not really gripping at all and not enough chain was
out.  So up it came and we had anoher go and into the sea I went again to
check on how the ancor was set and now it seemed OK - we just hope for a better
nights sleep tonight.   Last time I went swimming in the sea in Antigua I saw a
Pelican flying and appeared to aim for me where I was swimming.  I know I
am too big for it to swallow me but they are rather big birds and can give you
quite a headache if they dive straight down at you.  Luckily it was aiming
for some fish nearby... Today we walked around Gustavia.  It was interesting as
it is so Swedish.  Being French they all speak French but it belonged to
Sweden for a while in the past and it has left quite a mark on it.  Here it
is full of large superyachts both sail and motor and it is a place where the
rich and famous come.  We paid 8 Euros for 2 small bears so it is probably
the most expensive beers we have had so far.   Some pictures below: The Swedish church Tower and Katrin standing  by the door
to the tower...    A view from the hills of Gustavia over the
harbour.  Island Kea is appx on the far right so a reasonably long dingy
ride to land.  If we had the size of anchor Steve is standing by I am
sure we would not drift on anchor... but it would probably sink the boat if we
tried to carry it!!! |
