Yesterday we had the cruising chute up from midday until 7pm.  We then had Main and Jib up for the night.  Unfortunately the wind was blowing from such a direction that we were heading quite far south and this morning we were going quite happily towards the Amazon river but not towards St Lucia.  We have now put up the parasailor and we are heading straight for St Lucia sailing directly down wind.  We could really do with the spinnaker pole in order to stabelize the boat so we are going to have a got at fixing that today, well enought to make it usable.
We saw another yacht yesterday, first time for days and called them on the VHF and it turned out to be Equianox.  It was great to be able to see and speak to another yacht.  Steve from Star Chaser is one of the crew who we met in Las Palmas. They lost their boom a few days ago and are sailing to St Lucia with the use of Head sail only, Jib overnight and Spinnaker/Cruising Chute in the day.  We know that a few yachts have lost their boom so we consider ourselves quite lucky.
Today we will be opening a bottle of Bubbly as we are definetely over half way now - less than 1350 miles to go - we have definetely sailed further, but 1350 is half of the official rum line course.....
Being over half way is a wonderful feeling.  We are quite comfortable, but we are all very much looking forward to that Rum Punch which we know awaits us in St Lucia..
It is great to be doing this Atlantic crossing, but it will much greater to have done it!!!!
There are so many things which can go wrong and we have now as a precaution filled up all our empty bottles of mineral water with watermaker water just in case..
