Botswana and
the
Okavango Delta was next on our Schedule.
Okavango- Face to face with nature

On the Okavango River in a "Dug-Out"
This remote region of southern Africa,
almost untouched by the 20th century, contains a natural
wonder
created
by a combination of climate and geography. This is the Delta of the Okavango, an idiosyncratic river that
crosses
northern Botswana for 1000 kilometers from its source in Angola, never
to reach an Ocean. Instead, it settles into a
massive, lush Wetland Delta,
before soaking away into the arid Kalahari desert’s insatiable sands.
The
perverse Okavango floods in mid-dry season makes inexplicable twists in
its
course, but also creates natural
wealth : a succession of contrasting, each supporting an
astonishing multiplicity of wildlife, from small delicate creatures
to the
biggest game of all.

Botswana
In the usual dark blue clear sky with
no clouds from horizon to horizon, we departed together with Nicolas
and
Richard from
Vic Fall International, waving good by to our new friends from
Zimbabwe.
Another circling turn right over the Falls and then via Kasane, our
entry point into Botswana and on to Khway River Lodge right
on the edge of the
Swamps.
Due to some game on the dirt runway, we
had to buzz the field first, to chase the animals off the runway, and
then both
planes
anded next to the lodge.
Here we were literally surrounded by
nature and profusion !
Far away from the hectic of everyday
life, in the middle of unspoiled nature, in this small luxury
lodge, we sat back on the terrasse,
watching game a few hundred feed away.
There were Elephants, Hippos, Antelopes, Kudus, even
Crocodiles and Lions.
