Thursday 21st April
We sailed into Salalah eight weeks ago
today, this is how we have been entertaining ourselves whilst we wait for
the container ship to take the yachts to Turkey. A few
kilometres outside of the port is the Oasis Club, a bar and restaurant with a
bowling alley on the side. A group of us meet at the club twice a week,
Tuesday evening for a game of ten-pin bowling and Thursday is quiz night. We
have also taken out a one month membership at the Hilton hotel and have use of
the pool, gym and tennis courts and on Friday evenings we meet at the
hotel to play tennis.
Oh dear, the longer we spend in Oman
the more institutionalized we are becoming, will we ever be able to
leave!
Outside bar at the Oasis
Club.
Bowling ,one of the highlights
of the week!
Anyone for tennis.
The view from the
Hilton...relaxing by the pool!
Because we have been here for so
long, quite a few birthday have been celebrated at the Oasis Club including
mine. A little different from last year when I celebrated in the Galapagos
Islands.
A birthday cake and a
tequila...cheers.
We have also said a few
good-byes. Amy, Shae and the Tippy children flew back to the UK with Tony from
the Blue Water Rally within a few days of us arriving here, when we were still
planning on continuing through the Gulf of Aden. Austen and Shaun from Journey
and Richard from Island Kea flew back to India and other have flown home leaving
a reduced rally behind.
Waving the children off at the
airport...Austen, Richard and Shaun.
Once we had made the decision
to ship the yachts to Turkey, Lica and Sheila flew to the UK to be with the
children.
We also flew back to the UK
for two weeks to catch up with family and friends. When checking in for our
return flight at Heathrow we bumped into Sheila and the children and Lica and
Shae who were waiting to collect Brian and Gavin who had flown back for a week.
The Tippy's and the Sol Maria's
reunited at Heathrow.
