We anchored for the night at Red Island,
Seisia. Seisia is the coastal port for the Aboriginal settlement of Bamaga,
three miles inland and takes its name from a family of Saibai Islanders who
settled here in 1947, arriving aboard lugger Seisia. It's name was derived from
the first letters of the names of six brothers, these being Saguakaz, Elu, Isua,
Suni, Ibuai and Aken.
We launched the dinghy picked up
Mark and Chrissy and went ashore. It's a very popular destination for 4WD
traffic reaching the end of it's trek up the Cape York Peninsula and row
after row of 4WD vehicles fill the car park. We didn't find much
ashore just a small supermarket and a kiosk-cafe. It's very very hot and
humid.
