home.......Brisbane City
The first settlement in
Brisbane was in 1824. A penal colony for difficult convicts from the
Botany Bay colony in New South Wales was set up on the banks of the Brisbane
River, it was eventually abandoned in 1839. Today Brisbane is the
third-largest city in Australia with a population of 1.6 million.
We stayed at a hotel overlooking
the Brisbane River and on Sunday morning walked over the bridge to the South
Bank. On the walkway we came across Pauls Breaka Beach, an artificial
swimming beach designed to resemble a tropical lagoon. Behind the beach is
Stanley Street plaza where we wondered around a local crafts
market.
On Monday afternoonn we flew back
to Mackay.
