Tuesday 24th November
We've now been at sea for 1 week out of a possible 21 days! The
last few days haven't been pleasant at all and we're all getting pretty fed up
with the sea now, so Paul and Paul are at this very moment trying to find us a
way out of it. From the daily roll call we are able to find out what the
sailing conditions are like for the other rally boats so their studying the
other boats positions and weather and we might try a more southern route.
It wasn't Paul's day yesterday. In the afternoon one of the 5 metre high waves
broke over the side of the boat at the cockpit and soaked him and Amy. Then
during the night while him and Amy were on watch the boat was rolling from side
to side because of the waves crashing into us all the time, sometimes they are
more aggressive than others. Anyway, Paul was sleeping in the cockpit when the
boat suddenly rolled from the starboard side to port and he was launched from
his sleeping position causing him to bang his head on the fibre glass and fall
down to the floor. It was really quite a bang and he was seeing stars for a
while. You'd have thought he'd have learnt as the same thing happened to Amy
the other day and she's bruised all her knee. We're wearing our life jackets
and harnesses all throughout the day and night at the moment so there was no
danger of him falling off the boat. But we've now started to attach ourselves
to the winch as well as being harnessed on if we are going to sleep up in the
cockpit, so that we can't move at all.
One of the other boats in the rally, Bali Blue, who I mentioned the other day,
when they bent their whisker pole, has had another problem. They've managed to
fix the pole but have now damaged their mainsail so now they are only able to
use their front sail. Two very unfortunate accidents.
Still 1758 miles to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
