Day 5 - Heading home to Darwin
For our final morning we had the pleasure of
a more wallaby's and kangaroo's plus this beautiful bird sat up in the tree
above our van. We certainly haven't been disappointed with the amount of
wildlife that we've seen. The only thing missing was a koala!
![]() Instead of heading back out of
the park the same way we came we decided to go via Berry Springs which involved
42 km of unsealed road but we had been assured that it was perfectly suitable
for our campers so off we went.
![]() It most definitely was not
suitable but we decided to plough on as we'd come too far to turn round. The van
was shaking violently as we drove very slowly over the severely rutted road. It
wasn't a very pleasant journey!
![]() So when we reached the tarmac
we were so happy........
![]() Only to find this again about 1
km further on!!!! You can imagine our disappointment!
![]() ![]() Going slow did have it's
benefits though as we spotted this 2 ft long lizard sat at the side of the road
in the shade. As well as this unusual sign!
![]() One final road train for
you!
All-in-all we had a superb time
out in the outback. The general consensus was that we preferred Litchfield to
Kakadu as the scenery was more varied and being able to swim in the waterfalls
was a huge bonus. Kakadu is just so vast that what you see in a one
hour plane ride would take you weeks to explore by driving.
It's back to life at sea now as
we prepare for our trip to Indonesia. We'll be leaving on Wednesday morning for
a 3 day passage to Kupang.
