FW: Camarinas
Camarinas town is a little disappointing. The older people
pass the afternoon, sitting chatting and looking at us strangely, the women on
the step of the Gadis Supermercado, the men under the lean-to outside the hotel
(that opens at 9). The marina is good and quite cheap. Three drinks in the
local bar is 4 Eur. Looking aft across the stern at the town the tips if the
wind turbines can be seen over the horizon, like a glimpse of a cartwheel
through a busy dance floor.. in Zetland…maybe…Linda? No wireless access in town so we can’t update our site. I spent all day yesterday getting a third reefing line in
and changing our outhall. Today is the turn of the halyards to get the better
of me. Couldn’t sleep last night, at 2am I moved to the aft cabin
to read (room 202 as it has become known). Flushing the toilet with the light
off I was startled to see it light up. Under sail at night we often see
phosphorescence (tiny organisms that light up when disturbed). As we use sea
water for flushing the toilet the same effect can be seen. The mullet jumping around the stern kept me awake even
longer. Defenseless without a mullet pistol I began to realize how fortunate I
was, awake at 4am cursing mullet rather than cursing cash flow or interest
rates. I fell asleep quickly thereafter. Found a laundry at last yesterday. I thought it was a
swimming trunks day but found the miracle underpants at the last minute. Could
it be that underpants do the opposite of socks? They always seem to just get in
from Narnia just when required. Is it possible that there is some continuous
exchange going on at a border post in another dimension like cold war prisoners
on a bridge somewhere in the dead of night? This is the wettest part of Spain, last night it rained for
ten minutes. It has been a little cloudy yesterday and today and while there
was no wind yesterday and yachts had to motor all the way from Coruna. Today
there is a stiff northerly breeze and it is quite cool. It’s raining in La
Coruna Off up town now with computer in hand to see if we can
locate an unguarded wireless network. |
