 Last time we were in this part of the world, Huahine was our favourite 
French Polynesian island, and after this visit 
it still is. There was a big surf running as we arrived, making for some 
spectacular breakers on the reef..... 
![]() ![]() ....and surfing at the pass. 
![]() Downtown Fare, the main town on the island..... 
![]() ....has an excellent supermarket.  Apart from all the basics, there is 
NZ lamb and beef, French pate 
and cheese, baguettes and extensive wines and spirits. 
![]() A "roulotte" - a snack bar, sometimes mobile, sometimes not.  Here 
they cook you anything from 
toasted sandwiches to grilled fish. 
![]() ![]() To the left of the setting sun is the island of Tahaa 25 km away, and to 
the right is Bora Bora, 50 km. 
away. 
![]() We travelled down to the south end of the island inside the lagoon. 
![]() There are only 3 resort hotels on the island, this one is the 
largest. 
![]() ![]() The island of Raitea, 25 km away. 
![]() In the anchorage we met up with SP2P, French owned with a kiwi crew of 
2.  We had last met them 
in St Maarten in the Caribbean.  They were hanging out here waiting on 
their next charter. 
![]() This is a very laid back little resort. 
![]() ![]() ![]() Big tuna liked the one above the door are common in these waters.

![]() ![]() A coral head...the pictures struggle to accurately show the beautiful 
colours in the clear clear waters. 
![]() We hired push bikes for a short tour of the north end of the island. 
![]() ![]() A museum, newly built but not open 
![]() ![]() These fish traps are 3 or 4 hundred years old
