Last time we were in this part of the world, Huahine was our favourite French Polynesian island, and after this visit
it still is. There was a big surf running as we arrived, making for some spectacular breakers on the reef.....

....and surfing at the pass.

Downtown Fare, the main town on the island.....

....has an excellent supermarket.  Apart from all the basics, there is NZ lamb and beef, French pate
and cheese, baguettes and extensive wines and spirits.

A "roulotte" - a snack bar, sometimes mobile, sometimes not.  Here they cook you anything from
toasted sandwiches to grilled fish.

To the left of the setting sun is the island of Tahaa 25 km away, and to the right is Bora Bora, 50 km.
away.

We travelled down to the south end of the island inside the lagoon.

There are only 3 resort hotels on the island, this one is the largest.

The island of Raitea, 25 km away.

In the anchorage we met up with SP2P, French owned with a kiwi crew of 2.  We had last met them
in St Maarten in the Caribbean.  They were hanging out here waiting on their next charter.

This is a very laid back little resort.

Big tuna liked the one above the door are common in these waters.

Ruins of a marae.

A coral head...the pictures struggle to accurately show the beautiful colours in the clear clear waters.

We hired push bikes for a short tour of the north end of the island.

A museum, newly built but not open

These fish traps are 3 or 4 hundred years old
