We took a ride on the Marrakesh Express for a
two night stay at a riad (courtyard house turned into a pension) in
the kasbah.

Welcome drinks in our riad

Main street near our riad.

Checking out the local artifacts.

Tajines, tajines and more tajines.  Tajines are individually cooked on their own charcoal burners.
Chicken, lamb, beef or vegetable tajines are the the norm.  Our favorite is lamb with prunes
and almonds.

The Djemaa el- Fna square, full of entertainers, food stalls, and vendors of pretty well anything you could name.
In the evening it is packed with the locals and it seems the main entertainment in Marrakesh is
wandering in the square.

Snake charmers are popular.  This one has a couple of cobras.

Delicacies at the food stalls include snails (you get a bowl and a toothpick), and whole goats head
roasted.

We hired a car and took a trip to the Ourika valley, about an hour east of Marrakesh in the foothills of the
Atlas mountains.  Very popular with the citizens of Marrakesh as a cool spot for a Sunday drive.

Mint tea is a popular drink in Morocco.

You can walk up to a series of cascades.  Here the guide and Bob and Becky enjoy a restorative
mint tea.

Camels and horses for those who prefer to ride.

Don't fall in, the water is ice cold.  Near here is Morocco's only ski resort.  Restaurants line both
sides of the river, some reached by precarious looking rope bridges.

The laundry.

Stopping for lunch.  This was a bit up market for us.

Looking back up the valley into The High Atlas Mountains from the restaurant terrace.

A Berber village

Checking out the old palace back in Marrakesh.
