On our way to the waterfall, we passed the village church....

...some lovely gardens....

dense vegetation...

...lots of other waterfalls....

....waded across the river several times...

...till we got our first glimpse of the Vaipo waterfall....

...and were very disappointed to find that all we could see when we got to
the base of the falls was the last 10 metres!  The pool was too muddy to swim
in and full of eels that bite anyway.

Oh well....the scenery made the trek worth the effort.

We then went the 6 miles to Taiohea Bay, the main town on the island....back to civilisation and the
internet.

The remains off the marae, which was the religious and social centre for the resident clan.

The locals surfing the shore break....

...just behind Bondi Tram.  The water is muddy due to all the rain.

The wharf and dinghy dock.

Arts and crafts shop at the dock.

View over Taiohea Bay.  The large yacht in the middle of the bay is the 152 foot Lady B.

We hired a car and drove over the mountains to the north coast......
