We sailed from the south west coast of Corsica around to the south east,
heading for the town of
Porto Vecchio and stopping at a couple of anchorages on the way.
Porto Vecchio, with the old town on the hill.
Porto Vecchio old town was a maze of narrow streets, very pretty.
From Porto Vecchio, we took the bus for a half hour trip back to
Bonifacio for a closer look.
We had breakfast on the harbourside, then....
.........headed up the hill to the old town.
We walked to the cliff top cemetery, billed in the local tourist guide as "
the second most beautiful
marine cemetery in the world". They didn't tell us what is the most
beautiful one.
These are family crypts, very well looked after with fresh flowers, kept
swept and painted.
Someone has made a house of of part of the old fortifications.
A war memorial, brought back from Algeria by the French Foreign Legion, who
used to have a base in the
fort at Bonifacio.
There are many restaurants, fitted into every possible space.
About half way up the east coast, we said farewell to Corsica and headed
north east for the island of Elba.
