....which was a great trip.  At the north if the island is Hatiheu Bay with a small village at the head of the bay.
 
 
 
 
On the way down to the bay, we passed through the extensive remains of several villages, dating
back some 600 years and home then to 5 or 6 thousand people.
 
 
 
Large banyan trees such as the one below are found all over Nuku Hiva.
 
 
 
 
Much work has been done here in clearing vegetation and restoration, including this shelter with its
carved posts holding up a thatch roof.
 
 
 
In the village we had an excellent lunch at this restaurant.
 
 
Prawns, fish, taro, rice, vegetables, yum.

Every village has a church.
 
 
We keep saying this, but these islands have such magnificent scenery.  These photos represent
only a fraction of the the ones we take, as there are magnificent vistas of mountains and beaches
wherever you go.
 
 
There are no big resort hotels on these islands, only a couple of small up market hotels and a lot
of pensions and home stays, which means very few tourists get here.
 
 
 
Soon its farewell to the Marquesas and a 500 mile voyage south east to
the Tuamotus.
