....which was a great trip. At the north if the island is Hatiheu Bay
with a small village at the head of the bay.
![]() On the way down to the bay, we passed through the extensive remains of
several villages, dating
back some 600 years and home then to 5 or 6 thousand people.
![]() ![]() Large banyan trees such as the one below are found all over Nuku
Hiva.
![]() ![]() ![]() Much work has been done here in clearing vegetation and restoration,
including this shelter with its
carved posts holding up a thatch roof.
![]() ![]() In the village we had an excellent lunch at this restaurant.
![]() Prawns, fish, taro, rice, vegetables, yum.
![]() Group picture with Conor and Marion of Toucan, and Glenn and Lynn of
Steel Sapphire
![]() Every village has a church.
![]() We keep saying this, but these islands have such magnificent scenery.
These photos represent
only a fraction of the the ones we take, as there are magnificent vistas of
mountains and beaches
wherever you go.
![]() There are no big resort hotels on these islands, only a couple of small up
market hotels and a lot
of pensions and home stays, which means very few tourists get here.
![]() ![]() Soon its farewell to the Marquesas and a 500 mile voyage south east
to
the Tuamotus.
