The Aeolian Islands lie off the north coast of Sicily and are all extinct
or live volcanoes, with Stromboli being the most active.
We spent a week cruising around in some beautiful late summer weather,
swimming in warm (26 degree) and very clear water.
The island of Alicudi at dawn
Approaching Stromboli with guest "Aunt" Erica on board
The active side of Stromboli
We waited for night to watch the 'fireworks'...every 10 or 15 minutes, lava
would spout into
the air.

Leaving Stromboli with it's plume of smoke
The crater of Vulcano
Ready to climb up to the crater on Vulcano...note the sign - extreme danger
of intoxification!
Most of the way up. Bondi Tram is anchored just to the right of my
back. Stomboli is on
the horizon.
Sitting on the edge of the crater getting intoxicated.
