Time to leave the Galapagos for the 3,000 nautical mile voyage (about 6,000 km) to the Marquesas.
A visit to the market to stock up on fresh veggies.....

....and time to evict our short term tenant who wasn't that happy about it.

Fresh protein on passage, a mahi-mahi which is excellent eating.

Finally, after a fairly uneventful 20 day passage, landfall on Fatu Hiva, the southernmost of the Marquesas.

Approaching the anchorage....

....greeted by a rainbow.

Known as the Bay des Verges, until the missionaries arrived and added an i to make it the Bay des
Vierges....

...this is a spectaculary beautiful location.  There are only 2 villages on the island joined by a 17 km
track, although they are only about 6 km apart by sea.  About 650 people live here, and there is no
airport, so most of the tourists are cruisers such as ourselves.

Do you see the face of the woman with long green hair?

The little wharf, where they unload 200 litre drums of diesel brought up from the main village.

A boat full of dogs.....wild pig hunting is a popular occupation, so the dogs are taken by boat to the
more remote parts of the island which otherwise would take days to get there the terrain is so steep and
the vegetation so dense.

Sandra making friends with the tiki that protects the harbour.

Looking out at the anchorage.

The village church.

Main street on a typically busy morning.

Most households keep chickens and a pig.

Signs of progress, new houses and a 4 wheel drive.

Next post - the waterfall and Hiva Oa
