Block Island is bit of a sailing mecca in these parts. Only 30/40 miles from Newport it makes for a convenient weekend race or getaway for local East Coast Americans. For us it is a convenient jumping off point for a longer leg south towards the Chesapeake Bay some 200 miles south.

Block Island is a laid back summer holiday kind of place with not much going on apart from boats arriving and leaving. The island has a very large protected bay at its centre which lends itself perfectly at a go to place for sailors.

Our next main objective is Annapolis on the Chesapeake Bay, not too far from Washington DC. To get there we will go offshore for a 200 mile jaunt past New York and enter the Delaware River. From there it's a 50 mile motor up the Delaware Bay and turn left into the C&D (Chesapeake and Delaware) Canal. This emerges at the head of the Chesapeake River some 150 miles from the Atlantic. Needless to say we are in Fresh water at this point which will probably be the first and last time for Alia Vita. Lets hope she enjoys it!
