We left Madeira in a light
breeze; yes, you’ve guessed it, motoring! Our attention was
soon on the wildlife as a family of seals passed us in the opposite direction, making
their way from Islas Desertas and heading towards Funchal. Maybe some
afternoon tea with relations? On the way over we were also entertained by
Whales – mainly in the distance - and Dolphins, who appeared from time to
time to do their normal tricks in the bow waves. The seas soon
turned swellie and there was a bit of viewing of the bottom of the boat from Dave and Sheena. We managed to get the
engine off and sailing just once, but the wind was not really sufficient for us
to maintain our speed and we wanted to make the marina in reasonable time, so
the engine went on and we motor sailed for the rest….we played the usual
games with the wind in getting in here, but also found a surprise guest on the
foreward deck when we were setting the fenders. The pictures will
introduce him.
We are here for another night, then will tour…
