16th March

Saba 17 38N, 63 15W. We had a pleasant beam reach from Sint Maartens to Saba yesterday which is only a 28 mile trip. On reaching Saba we decided to pick up a mooring in Ladder Bay rather than going to the south coast to Fort Bay as the pilot book warns of a bad swell.
Christian, under the tutelage of Andy, produced an excellent supper.
This morning we moved to Fort Bay and the swell was bad but I went ashore so that we could clear customs and immigration. I then walked up the hill and had a look around the settlement of Bottom, which was very pretty.
Saba is only five square miles in total but the reaches a height of 3084 feet. It has a population of about 1500, which goes up to 1900 including the students and lecturers at the medical school which is on the island.
At about five pm we returned to Ladder Bay and again Christian made an excellent soup for supper.
Tomorrow, Ian, Christian and myself plan to walk up Mount scenery and Andy is going to take a taxi tour of the island.
