Position 28 05N, 17 06W, Marina La Gomera. We have now been here for five days and we all agree that it is a very beautiful island. Someone has said its a big island in a small footprint. The development here seems to be very sympathetic to the environment and maybe this is as a direct result of the brash buildings that have, and continue to to be, erected to cater for the ever expanding tourist industry on the other major islands within the group.
The walking has gone well so far with two nights spent sleeping under the stars but the walks invariably involve a lot of ascent and descent due to the volcanic nature of the island. The villages and towns beyond the capital (San Sebastian) are very charming and are not as commercially exploited as towns on other islands. As there is so much to see we are planning to stay here over the weekend at least with another few walks planned although rain is forecast for Sunday.
