Position 28 01N, 16 37W, Marina San Miguel, Tenerife. We left Marina
Rubicon yesterday at about 10.30 and luckily the winds picked up for a few hours
and we were able to fly the cruising chute with the main, and averaged seven
knots for a few pleasant hours then at nightfall the wind disappeared completely
for the remainder of the journey to Tenerife. Ian offered to stand a watch from
9pm through to 6am Saturday morning which was a very welcome offer to the rest
of the crew.
Even though there were no winds, the views of Gran Canaria and Tenerife in
the full moon and rising sun were spectacular as was the moment when the sun
first caught Mount Teide, although the prevailing weather conditions prompted
Andy to say, ‘I’ve seen bigger swells in swimming pools than out here!’. Maybe
the smooth seas helped Andy to produce another superb meal from the galley,
consisting of a chicken, potatoes with home-made stuffing and gravy. We will
stay here until Monday morning and then move on to La Gomera to do some walking
for a few days. |
