Monday 16th February - we arrived in Sopers hole yesterday at about 1000 and
Anita again managed to pick up the buoy first go. Mind you she did manage to
also loose the diamond out of the clasp of her engagement ring at the same
time. Thank heavens for insurance! We went ashore at about 1200 and had a
look around the shops in the marina where Anita decided to book herself in
for a leg waxing for today at 1000. We then had a leisurely two and a half
hour lunch at the waterside cafe before heading back for a siesta. We are
definitely into holiday mode now. We have had contact with Susan from
Corcovada which is a similar boat to Osprey and we are trying to arrange to
meet up with them on Wednesday. We have suggested the adjacent island -
which is Jost van Dyke where Corcovada is at present. Just waiting for
confirmation now. One of our anchor control buttons was playing up so John
stripped that yesterday evening and looks as though it will now operate with
only Anita's weight applied to it. There was a lot of activity in the
harbour yesterday - it being the weekend and several American boats had
large parties on board which all decamped to the Jolly Roger for a further
Party at about 1900. There is little doubt that you can hear the US citizens
from a goodly distance and there is little doubt of their identity. Having
seen so many head ashore, we decided to remain on board and observe from a
distance. The party and music was still in full swing at 0100. James - the
poor chap who collects the mooring fees here was having a really bad time
with some Americans in the boat next to us, who were refusing to pay him -
all very embarrassing. We have decided to stay here through Tuesday and find
a way of getting around the island - maybe we will hire a car for the day
tomorrow but first we are going to see what busses are available - the
distances are not great. The alternative is hitch hiking which is a way of
life here and everyone gives everyone a lift - but Anita is not keen on that
idea. If we can find a bus we will head up to Road Town this afternoon or if
not look at getting a car tomorrow.
