We had a really great day today, good news from Deildy, cleaned up the
dinghy and boat pretty much before dawn then having decided Fort De France
was not for us up anchored and headed across the bay. Must have been some
sort of Psycho transfer because the other four boats in the anchorage did
the same leaving the cupboard bare!. We meandered through the reefs to a
small village called Anse Mitan. Difficult to get into for a yacht of our
size but we finally got into the harbour and anchored with only a few
centimetres under our keel. A really lovely place and obviously treated as a
small resort as well as a fishing village as there is what looks to be a
resort style hotel on one side of the place, though tourists were not in
evidence. John did an exploratory trip and found a small cafe on the jetty
which we promptly attended for an extended French style lunch and then
booked ourselves in for the evening mean. Not a great selection for Anita as
it is all fish or meat but chicken seems to work. Finding food for a
vegetarian that is allergic to fish is very nearly impossible in most places
but we keep trying and she IS loosing weight! After following the French
advice to take a siesta we rigged a line around the waterline of the boat
and John has been in the water for a couple of hours cleaning up the
waterline and removing the growth - most of which appears to have come with
us from Maine! We have now decided that as we cant get the sail back until
noon tomorrow and it will take us a while to re rig it, that we will come
back here for the rest of the day then head out on Christmas day for
Dominica. This makes more sense as it will take us most of a day to get
there and if we left tomorrow afternoon we would be searching around an
unknown anchorage in the dark on arrival.
