1100 Thursday 20th November. Let go the mooring in Sopers Hole at 0430.
Quite interesting single handed in the dark as the moorings were crowded
with many having no anchor lights and the wind was gusting down the cut from
Road Town into the anchorage. Once out of Sopers hole we motored directly up
wind to Dead Chest Island and just as dawn was breaking picked up our course
away from the BVI, initially heading slightly north of the Antigua lay line,
so as to get to windward. Wind is NE at 15 knots so about 60 degrees on our
port bow and we are sailing quite comfortably under about two thirds each of
main and 135% Genoa making 6.4 knots. We should probably have shortened down
to the Yankee foresail for this passage as the larger Genoa is really too
much for one person if fully extended. Seemed strange not having Jonathon
dishing our his great breakfasts, nevertheless bacon and egg rolls were the
order of the day. Once we get to St Barthelemy this afternoon we should be
able to come off the wind some more and hopefully be on a broad reach and
accelerating up to our normal 8 knot warp speed. Had a nice mail from Helen
at the Cat club yesterday in response to my ETA saying "nice to know you are
coming home finally".
