Classic Regatta week ended here and is immediately
followed by the Antigua sailing week. One
continuous long party with huge numbers of yachts and the associated crews. If
that is not enough we have game fishing week to follow though that will, of
course be mostly power boats. Many of the larger boats that were here for the
classic regatta are starting to head north for Bermuda,
as did Lions Whelp yesterday. The weather north of Bermuda is still very much
winter north Atlantic and most of the boats will be hanging around in Bermuda
for a month to six weeks waiting for the Polar Front to move north and make the
passage to either the Mediterranean or New England more acceptable. Herb on
Southbound II is starting to get busy again and it is fun to listen to the
yachts leaving and logging in with him. Herb is a meteorologist based in Canada who provides an effective weather
forecasting service on SSB radio for yachts in the Atlantic
– it’s his hobby, free and exceptionally good. Its also keeps all
the yachts in contact as they all log in to him on the same frequency at the
same time of the day.
Osprey is now pretty much together and we have moved
onto the list of jobs that were on the wish list. After many frustrating hours
today I finally managed to fit effective door catches to the tumble dryer
locker – good when it was over and done with; the overhead GALLEY lockers
with damaged varnish work have also been attended to. The anchor and cable
lockers are next on the list followed by the lazarette. Wild Thing the boat on
our Starboard side leaves on Monday which will give me the opportunity to get
the dinghy in the water again and off the foredeck.
