7th November and we rounded the north point of Eleuthera at 2230 yesterday
and have now set a course for the Turks and Caicos Islands. We spent
yesterday with little wind and motor sailing. Took advantage of the calm
wetaher to correct a number of faults in the work conducted in FT
Lauderdale. The main sail had been wrongly rigged at the gooseneck and the
wrong size strop fitted so we removed the strop and have made up a temprary
one that will get replaced when we are in the islands. Although we left with
a benign forecast, typhoon Lapalamo has now developed off the coast of
Venezuala and is heading for Cuba and thence across our path. All going well
we will cross ahead of it and get to the Turks and Caicos whilst it passes
to the west. We will motor sail if necessary to get ahead of it as we can
then refuel in the T & C when we get there. Jonathan has taken over the
cooking and we are feeding well, Finn has his sea legs and is enjoying the
balmy conditions even if we are having to motor a lot due to the lack of
wind.
