Now we have wind – lots of it and from the
wrong direction. We started out for Little Harbour on Long
Island at 0800 this morning and for once had a great sail with all
the sails up and “smoking along” at over 8 knots. Unfortunately the
wind and swell went around to the east which made getting into little harbour impossible.
So we headed around the south of Long Island
to find a small anchorage that gave us some shelter but it is very tight to the
reefs and we will have a keep a careful eye on things overnight. Forecast is
not great for tomorrow and we could still have strong winds for the better part
of the day and will have to make a decision in the morning on whether we head
out for Rum Cay or wait for the wind and seas to die down somewhat. Time is
starting to get tight for our intended arrival on Florida on the 1st but a day or
so will not make that much difference. We may have to skip a few islands as we
go north and do a few night sails which we have been trying to avoid around
here mainly due to the number of passages and reefs that require daylight and
good visibility.
