28th December - Had a very pleasant day yesterday - swimming and doing some
general maintenance around the boat - mostly cleaning off salt and removing
stains from steel that is supposed to be stainless! In the evening we found
another nice little cafe restaurant and for once there was a menu that Anita
could chose from as well. We were planning to sail for Deshaies early this
morning but through the night the wind built up to a sub gale and when we
got up just looking at the ferry rocking and rolling coming in from the
mainland was enough to convince us we should remain here for the day and see
what the morrow brings. It our first overcast and generally dull day in the
Islands with still quite strong winds and intermittent rain. John didn't get
too much sleep last night as with the wind it was necessary to keep an eye
on the anchor. We have a 66lb Bruce and to date it has not let us down at
all which other boats are skidding around the anchorage. This in itself is a
bit of a problem as we always seem at risk of another boat dragging into us.
Revised plan is for lunch ashore in French style, stay on board tonight with
everything stowed ready for an early departure - all of course dependent on
the weather.
