Position as at 1600Z on the 28th Nov 07. We passed the 1,000 mile mark from Bermuda at 0600 this morning giving us the remarkable track through the water speed of around ten knots. We have of course been way out to the east of the rhumb line so as to latterly take advantage of the trade winds, but nevertheless it has been a fast passage from Bermuda. Osprey has proved to be a great passage boat with good manners and a better turn of speed that anything that has been in company. We are now firmly in the trade winds with a moderate sea and swell with all plain sail set. The current and wind have and continue to set us to the west and as a result are a little further west than intended and will pass to the west of Barbuda in our approach to Antigua. Osprey (and crew) now have a failry thick coating of salt and it will be good to wash down both thoroughly on arrival. Everyone is in good spirits with Smitty dreaming of his first cold beer and Sean does not seem to have been put off buying his own boat despite a couple of uncomfortable days on this trip. Smitty is heading straight back to do it all over again on a 39 ft boat. He is a great trimmer of sails and it has been rare that the speedo has dropped below ten knots. It will be interesting to see what our final SOG for the rhumb line passage turns out to be.
