0600 on 13th November - we have now found the real Atlantic swell which is
coming off our port bow and are beating to windward against an ESE force
five wind which has slowed us down somewhat. We should be at Sopers Hole
late tomorrow or early Saturday morning depending on the weather. Everyone
is fine on board and the boat is performing well. The engine will have had
more running hours during this passage than in the rest of its short life -
we are using it continuously as the wind is effectively on the bow and we
would otherwise have to tack a long way offshore to make the BVI on a cross
wind reach.Whilst this would be more comfortable it would take longer and we
want to get there quickly so that Jonathan and Finn have a few days relaxing
near a beach rather than working hard on an ocean passage. We intend to
anchor or pick up a buoy at Sopers hole and have a look around. It will also
give John an opportunity to talk to the locals and see if he can secure a
berth locally for when Anita comes out after Christmas. It could interesting
mooring at Sopers Hole in the dark as it is a small hurricane hole with
limited space though hopefully there will not be many boats there yet this
season.
