Anita and I had intended to leave Falmouth and the Catamaran Marina yesterday - 13th Dec but found that the yacht next door had dropped his anchor across ours. So we waited until today when he pulled out to let us leave. Anita did a great job of working the anchor clear of the mud and we were soon underway. The yacht next door managed to put himself aground whilst trying to hold his anchor and position for returning to the berth. Would have been much better to have heaved it in and re-set it prior to berthing but was not open to that advice.
We proceeded out to Falmouth Harbour anchorage to overnight there before an early start in the morning for our passage to Guadaloupe. Anita again handled the anchor and we were soon in position. When leaving tomorrow morning she wants to drive so I guess John will be on the anchor. Team work is developing! We managed to get the fridge pump moved to the engine room whilst in Falmouth and we will now see if that has cured the problem of air locks when we are under sail. We finally found the necessary hose for this work in Jolly Harbour and the new installation is now neat and we would think to Willy's satisfaction. Fitting of the grease remote supply to the saddle bearing did not get completed and MPS will do it when we return. The Hallett tent works exactly as intended and does a great job. We can have it up or down in less than 5 minutes and it comes down sufficiently low to both keep the rain and sun out. Had a couple of Oyster owners come and take pictures as their high level Bimini's are effectively worthless except for sun shade from directly overhead. Very simple and effective and we were talking today about making something similar for the fore deck before we get to the Med.
The passage to Guadaloupe should be managable in a day and we hope to anchor in Deshaies before sunset and have a look around. This will have to be from the sea as we do not at this stage plan to clear French customs there. We will then have a look at the Cousteux marine park a little further south and close to Pidgeon Island before heading for Portsmouth. Anita sends her love and seasons greetings to Sylvia Laxton (as does 6ft2).
